In the US unemployment is running rampant, people don't have the money to pay their bills, and the government (who we pay taxes to) is sending that money away instead of helping it's citizens. The US needs to take the next 2 years, at least, and stop foreign aid. Those people do need help but every dollar we send overseas is a dollar that isn't going to help the people here that need it, and if the people here, the ones that are working for and earning that money, can't live we can't send it. I am by no means trying to lessen the seriousness of the issue in Japan, or the necessity for peace and stability globally, but right now the US is neglecting its citizens to help trade partners. The only thing that tells me about the US is that it really is a Corporate Democracy, not a representative Democracy. A lot of people say "What do you think the founding fathers would think if they saw us now?" Well, I think they would be deeply disappointed in the corruption that dominates our gov't and the terrible neglect and policies that our citizens are being forced to endure. I agree!
